It all started with a piece of plastic. No, seriously. We met at Ultimate Frisbee practice in August of 2008. It was Johnny’s first day of college. By November we were dating. 4 years later on a beach in Texas we got engaged as the sun rose over the gulf. A year after that a wedding in the woods, a wooden tie, & a barefoot bride sealed the deal. We’ve been traveling together for the past 10 years and we’re eager to see every inch of the world!

Johnny’s Favorite Travel Memory: Driving through Crete to Sougia, a town on the southern coast. We got lost and needed to find someone to ask for directions. We came across an old man who had driven to check on his herd of sheep. After Brian and the man came to a conclusion, which involved lots of pointing since neither spoke the other’s language well, his wife yelled at him from inside their car to give us cake. He pulled a cake wrapped in tin foil from the trunk. It was probably meant for wherever they were headed. We ate the cake on the beach when we reached our destination, it was lemon poppyseed, my favorite.

Brian’s Favorite Travel Memory: Sunrise on Galveston Island, Texas. Johnny had planned a spring break road trip for us as my Christmas gift. I knew as soon as she presented it to me that’s where I’d propose. The trip came, and we camped on the beach. On our last morning, under the rising sun, I dropped to my knee. And, of course, she said yes. We didn’t see the most exotic locations, or the most awe-inspiring scenery on that trip. But it was the start of something special for the two of us to share, and something we strive to continue doing : traveling.
